Windward United Church of Christ is a faith community that’s committed to being a place of sanctuary, connection and service. At this small but growing congregation you will find space to grow in your relationship with God, form meaningful ties with people of all ages, and receive challenge and encouragement when you need it.
Coming to Worship
We worship on Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. The service lasts approximately an hour.
After parking your car, walk to the tallest building, our sanctuary. Our greeters will welcome you, provide you with a name tag, and hand you a worship program. Please ask them any questions you may have and then sit wherever you prefer.
It’s okay to dress comfortably; we’re in Hawaii after all! On most Sundays the doors are opened along the length of the sanctuary nave to let in our local air conditioning, the trade winds.
During the service you’ll find the traditional elements of hymns, choir and sermon as well as more casual elements. A favorite moment is when individual worshipers offer their joys and concerns for the prayerful consideration of the congregation.
Holy Communion is offered the first Sunday of the month. It is on these Sundays that we share worship with Vai Ole Ola o Kailua UCC, a Samoan congregation which meets on our campus. The singing that is performed by their congregational and youth choirs really brings the phrase “make a joyful noise” come to life. You have to hear it to believe it.
You are invited to mingle with other congregants after the service while enjoying refreshments in our outdoor gazebo.
Alternatively, adults meet with Pastor Jayne at 10:15 a.m. to “talk story” about that day’s sermon and how it fits into our lives or to attend an adult education class.
